Boz to play at Buddy Holly Birthday Anniversary Concert

HOLLYWOOD - Buddy Holly will be honored on what would have been his 75th birthday Wednesday with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The ceremony, to be held in front of the Capitol Records Building in Hollywood, will include an appearance by his widow, Maria Elena Holly, who will be speaking on his behalf, along with Phil Everly of the Everly Brothers; Peter Asher of Asher and Gordon; and Gary Busey, who earned an Academy Award nomination for portraying Holly in the 1978 movie "The Buddy Holly Story."

Surprise guests also are expected, according to the website for the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Later that evening, the celebration moves to The Music Box in Hollywood for a special invitation-only concert and birthday party with special guest performances of Holly's music by some of the artists who have been influenced by him.

The concert event will be filmed for a PBS special airing in December 2011.

Artists confirmed for the concert include Michelle Branch, Chris Isaak, Lyle Lovett, Raul Malo, Graham Nash, Stevie Nicks, Boz Scaggs and Patrick Stump.

Holly died on Feb. 3, 1959, in a plane crash near Clear Lake after performing at the Surf Ballroom.

Ritchie Valens, J.P. Richardson ("The Big Bopper") and pilot Roger Peterson also were killed in the plane crash.
